Marshall N. DicklerMARSHALL N. DICKLER, is the senior member of the firm and was the principal attorney of Marshall N. Dickler, Ltd., which became Dickler, Kahn, Slowikowski & Zavell, Ltd. on January 1, 2001. In addition to being an attorney, Mr. Dickler is an electrical engineer by education and experience. Mr. Dickler practiced as an electrical engineer for six (6) years, and, during part of that time, attended law school at John Marshall in Chicago, Illinois. He is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and has practiced as a patent attorney. Mr. Dickler's practical engineering background is of great value in understanding technical problems involved with the construction, operation, reconstruction and repair in structures such as multi-unit residential buildings.

Mr. Dickler is a sustaining member of the Community Associations Institute (CAI) and has lectured, taught and participated in national and regional conferences and conventions since 1977, addressing many subjects dealing with condominiums, homeowners associations, corporate, real estate, insurance and tax matters. Mr. Dickler is a former director and past president of the CAI Illinois Chapter and a former trustee of the CAI-National Association. CAI conducts an annual National Law Seminar, and Mr. Dickler was a member of the Seminar faculty. He is a member of ACTHA and has spoken at their programs. Additionally, Mr. Dickler is the author of three chapters on Condominium and Homeowners Association Litigation for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education (IICLE). Mr. Dickler has lectured statewide on the subject matter of these chapters to members of the Illinois Bar, and he was a special advisor to the IICLE, as to its real estate publications and lectures. Mr. Dickler has many years of experience providing business and financial advice to small and large businesses and corporations, and was and is counsel to a number of major for profit and not-for-profit corporations. He is counsel to and the firm performs work for a major national collection agency. Mr. Dickler is admitted to the Illinois Bar; he is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, United States Appellate Court for the Seventh Circuit, the Federal Trial Bar for the Northern District of Illinois and the Court of Customs and Patent Appeals. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Northwest Suburban Bar Association, DuPage County Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association and American Bar Association.

James A. SlowikowskiJAMES A. SLOWIKOWSKI is a member of the firm. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from DePaul University College of Law in June, 1987 after having received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from DePaul University in June, 1984. Prior to joining Marshall N. Dickler, Ltd., Mr. Slowikowski practiced with the Chicago firm of Margolin & Aronson where his primary responsibility was in the areas of real estate, corporate, construction and commercial litigation.

Mr. Slowikowski joined Marshall N. Dickler, Ltd. in May, 1991, and continues to practice in the area of general civil litigation and condominium and homeowner association law, including supervising all evictions, foreclosures and bankruptcy activities. He oversees and litigates homeowner association rules and covenants violation cases, commercial, collection and corporate litigation cases and represents for profit and not-for-profit corporations and associations in all aspects of corporate and association matters. Mr. Slowikowski has been lead counsel in trials in both state and federal courts, and has litigated significant claims against association developers. Mr. Slowikowski is a member of the Trial Bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.

Sandra T. KahnSANDRA T. KAHN is a member of the firm. She was awarded a Juris Doctorate degree from The John Marshall Law School and was admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in 1983. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1973 and her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 1975. Ms. Kahn was then employed by the State of Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services as a Probation and Parole Agent for four years before beginning her legal education. Prior to joining Marshall N. Dickler, Ltd., Ms. Kahn practiced with the Des Plaines firm of Di Leonardi & Broihier, Ltd. for eight years. Her primary responsibility was in the areas of residential and commercial real estate matters including purchases and sales, conversion, developments, probate, wills and trusts and estate planning, asset protection, corporate and hospital law.

Ms. Kahn joined Marshall N. Dickler, Ltd. in July, 1991 and has continued to practice in these areas, as well as having substantial involvement with civil litigation of all types including evictions, foreclosures and trials in these cases, homeowner and condominium association representation and real estate tax matters including real estate tax protests, reductions and evaluations. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.

HOWARD M. ZAVELL is a member of the firm. He received his Juris Doctorate with Honors from IIT-Chicago Kent College of Law in June, 1992, and was admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in 1992. Prior thereto, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1989. While attending the University of Illinois, in addition to his academic studies, he was a nationally competitive gymnast and the co-captain of the 1989 University of Illinois Mens Gymnastics Team which was the NCAA Division I Champion and Big Ten Champion.

Mr. Zavell initially practiced law with the Chicago Law Firm of Briski & Alfieri where his primary responsibility was in the area of insurance defense litigation. Since then, Mr. Zavell has concentrated his practice in the areas of commercial and civil litigation. In the area of civil litigation, Mr. Zavell's practice includes representation of Plaintiffs in professional malpractice claims (legal and medical) and personal injury matters. Mr. Zavell represents Plaintiffs in wrongful death and survival claims and claims against Nursing Homes, on behalf of geriatric and pediatric Plaintiffs pursuant to the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act. Mr. Zavell has recovered millions of dollars on behalf of injured clients.

Mr. Zavell's commercial practice includes representing and consulting with corporate clients in civil litigation and transactional matters. Represented clients in the corporate settings include corporations in various industries including the steel industry, insurance restoration and mitigation, ceramic tile importation, financial institutions and homeowner and condominium associations. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.



Trisha Miller
TRISHA MILLER
received Juris Doctorate from The John Marshall Law School in 1999 and is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University in 1979. Ms. Miller worked in consumer and commercial credit before beginning law school in 1995. Ms. Miller worked for CCH as an associate writer/analyst in the State Tax Department for four years. Her primary duties were monitoring income, sales and use, and property tax developments for several states and writing summaries that were included in state tax reporters and newsletters. She is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association.
